MS with Thesis

The MS program in Electrical and Electronics Engineering aims to provide advanced education and a cutting edge research experience in electrical and electronics engineering, or in electrical and computer engineering crossing the boundary of the two disciplines. The focus of this program is excellence in research. Graduates of the program can join industry or continue to work in academia.

Degree Requirements

Applicants must have B.S. or B.A. degrees preferably in engineering or in sciences relevant to the particular degree program. In addition to coursework, students are engaged in thesis research. Every student is supervised by an advisor. The M.S. Program with Thesis option requires that the students successfully complete a minimum of 21 credits (with 7 courses) beyond a Bachelor’s degree. In addition to the credit courses, students must complete the non-credit courses; KOLT 500: KOLT Graduate Teaching Assistant Training, ELEC 590: Seminar, ENGL 500: Academic Writing, ETHR 500: Scientific Research Methods and Research and Publication Ethics, TEAC 500: Teaching Experience and ELEC 595: MS Thesis Course.

MS without Thesis

The M.S. program without Thesis option requires that the students successfully complete a minimum of 30 credits (with 10 courses) beyond a Bachelor’s degree. The non-thesis option also consists of a non-credit pass or fail M.S. Project course.

 

Conditions of acceptance to the MS without Thesis program:

  • Requirements for the Koç University Electrical-Electronics Engineering BS degree holders
    • Minimum C grade in ELEC 201, ELEC 202, ELEC 204, ELEC 206.
    • Minimum 3.00 GPA for ELEC 201, ELEC 202, ELEC 204, ELEC 206.
    • Minimum 3.00 CGPA for all courses taken towards the BS degree.
    • Minimum score of 75 in ALES Quantitative Test.
    • Minimum score (indicated) in one of the tests below:
      • Internet Based TOEFL: Minimum Score 80 (Exams taken in Türkiye must be carried out at the State Universities.)
      • YDS/e-YDS/YOKDIL: 80
    • If a Koç University Electrical-Electronics Engineering BS degree holder satisfies all of the requirements above, admission to the program is guaranteed and automatic.
    • If a Koç University Electrical-Electronics Engineering BS degree holder does not satisfy all of the requirements above, admission to the program may still be possible based on the recommendation of the program admission committee after a personal interview with the candidate.
  • Requirements for the Koç University BS/BA degree holders
    • Completion of ELEC 201, ELEC 202, ELEC 204, ELEC 206 as an undergraduate.
    • Minimum C grade in ELEC 201, ELEC 202, ELEC 204, ELEC 206.
    • Minimum 3.00 GPA for ELEC 201, ELEC 202, ELEC 204, ELEC 206.
    • Minimum 3.00 CGPA for all courses taken towards the BS/BA degree.
    • Minimum score of 75 in ALES Quantitative Test.
    • Minimum score (indicated) in one of the tests below:
      • Internet Based TOEFL: Minimum Score 80 (Exams taken in Türkiye must be carried out at the State Universities.)
      • YDS/e-YDS/YOKDIL: 80
    • If a Koç University BS/BA degree holder satisfies all of the requirements above, admission to the program is guaranteed and automatic.
    • If a Koç University BS/BA degree holder does not satisfy all of the requirements above, admission to the program may still be possible based on the recommendation of the program admission committee after a personal interview with the candidate.
  • Requirements for Computer Sciences and Engineering BS/BA degree holders from other universities or institutions
    • Minimum score of 75 in ALES Quantitative Test.
    • Minimum score (indicated) in one of the tests below:
      • Internet Based TOEFL: Minimum Score 80 (Exams taken in Türkiye must be carried out at the State Universities.)
      • YDS/e-YDS/YOKDIL: 80
    • There are no other requirements.
    • Applicants with a promising track record will be called for personal interviews by the program admission committee.
    • Program admission committee issues a recommendation against or for the admission of applicant to the program after a personal interview and careful consideration.
